June is the busiest month in Manali. The weather is genuinely pleasant. Rohtang and Solang are usually accessible. But the town is crowded, parking is a mess after 10 AM, and Rohtang Pass depends entirely on permits and live road status.

We run trips through Manali every single summer, and the travellers who enjoy June the most are the ones who plan around the crowds, not against them. This guide covers exactly how to do that.

Quick Answer

Yes, June is a good time to visit Manali, but only if you go in with realistic expectations. Days are warm at around 27°C, nights cool down to 12°C, and the valleys are green and alive. Rohtang Pass is usually open with permits, Solang is fully functional, and most sightseeing spots work well.

The catch is the crowd. June is peak season, so early starts, pre-booked stays, and a flexible plan matter more than anything else. Always recheck Rohtang permit status on rohtangpermits.hp.gov.in before your trip because the pass can be closed without warning.

👉 Confused? Let locals plan your trip.

What is Manali like in June?

June is when Manali finally shakes off winter properly. The apple orchards are green, the Beas is running hard with glacier melt, and Mall Road starts humming by 10 in the morning.

The mood is very different from January Manali. No frozen roads, no deserted cafés, no empty hotels. Instead you get long daylight hours, outdoor seating at every restaurant, and a town that is clearly running at full capacity.

Early June and late June are almost two different trips. Early June still carries some traces of spring, the crowd is slightly thinner, and pre-monsoon showers are rare.

By the last week of June, you start seeing the first hints of monsoon. Clouds build up in the afternoons, occasional light rain hits the Kullu stretch, and the drive from Chandigarh can slow down because of roadwork and washouts.

What is the weather in Manali in June?

Let us start with the numbers that actually matter. The IMD climatological mean for June puts Manali’s maximum at 27.2°C and minimum at 12.4°C. Average June rainfall is 88 mm spread across about 7.3 rainy days.

In June 2025, the highest recorded max hit 31.5°C and the lowest min dropped to 7.5°C, with total rainfall of 110.2 mm. So the range is wider than most people expect.

Some commercial travel sites throw out ranges like 15 to 25°C or 7 to 17°C for June Manali. Stick to the IMD numbers because they are actually measured.

In real traveller language, mornings in Manali feel cool and fresh. A t-shirt and a light hoodie is perfect. Afternoons get genuinely warm in direct sun, especially in the main town and towards Kullu.

Evenings cool down fast after 7 PM. You will want a light jacket or fleece, particularly if you are staying in Old Manali or anywhere near the river. Day trips to higher altitudes like Rohtang, Sissu, or the Atal Tunnel exit need serious layering because the temperature drops sharply with altitude.

Is June a good time to visit Manali?

For first-time visitors, June is genuinely good. Everything is accessible, photos come out great, and you are not fighting snow or landslides to move around.

For families, June works well. Kids enjoy the Beas side, Solang activities, and the greenery. Grandparents are comfortable because weather is stable and you do not need heavy winter gear.

For couples and honeymooners, June gives you long evenings, open-air restaurants, and enough scenic drives to fill a week. Just avoid Mall Road in the evening if you want any sense of privacy.

For adventure seekers, June is prime season. Paragliding, rafting, trekking, and biking are all at their best.

Honestly, the people who do not enjoy June Manali are the ones expecting two things that will not happen. No regular snowfall in Manali town in June, and no peaceful offbeat vibe. If that is what you want, go in September or shift your base to Jibhi or Sissu instead.

Is Manali crowded in June?

Yes. Very. Recent reporting has described Manali getting 15,000+ visitors a day in peak summer, and June is right in the middle of that peak.

You will notice it most on Mall Road after 6 PM, at Hadimba Temple between 11 AM and 3 PM, and on the Solang stretch between 10 AM and 2 PM. Parking near Mall Road can eat up 30 to 45 minutes on a bad day.

What we always tell our travellers is this. Start your sightseeing by 7 AM, finish the heavy tourist spots before lunch, and keep afternoons for cafés and slower walks. This one change solves 80% of the Manali crowd problem.

Our drivers also avoid the main Manali road during peak hours when possible. If you are heading to Solang, leave by 7:30 AM. If you are returning from Rohtang side, try to cross back before 5 PM or after 7 PM.

What are the best places to visit in Manali in June?

Old Manali

It is the obvious first stop. The routes above will fill two full days easily.

Café hopping is underrated. Old Manali and Vashisht both have cafés that stay open till late, with river views and actual good food. The Lazy Dog, Johnson’s, and Drifters Inn are the usual suspects, and they fill up by 7:30 PM.

Scenic drives matter more than people realise. The Atal Tunnel to Sissu run is top of the list. The Naggar route via the old road, on the other side of the Beas, is quieter and prettier than the main highway.

Easy treks work well in June because the weather cooperates. Jogini Waterfall, Bhrigu Lake base, and the Chandratal camp area are all doable depending on your fitness and time.

Paragliding in Solang is the signature June activity. Rafting on the Beas between Pirdi and Jhiri runs hard in June because of melt water.

For a full breakdown of what to try, read our guide on top adventure activities in Manali.

Can you visit Rohtang Pass in June?

Usually yes, but only with a permit and only when the pass is officially open.

The Rohtang tourist permit daily quota is 800 petrol vehicles and 400 diesel vehicles. That limit fills up fast in June. The permit issuing windows are at 10:00 and 16:00, and permits can only be applied for the next 2 days from the current date.

The permit fee for a car, jeep, or MUV is ₹500, plus a ₹50 congestion charge. If you plan to cross Rohtang and continue further, there is a separate beyond-Rohtang congestion fee of ₹50 for LMVs. Each tourist permit is valid for one day, to and fro.

To get the permit, you need a valid ID, a valid PUC certificate, and your vehicle must not be more than 10 years old. No exceptions on the vehicle age rule. The official portal is rohtangpermits.hp.gov.in.

Now for the part that most blogs miss. At the time of writing, the official permit status page showed Rohtang Pass as Closed. This can change from week to week. Never assume a Rohtang trip is confirmed until you actually have a valid permit for your travel date.

We have sent travellers to Manali in June for years, and what we always tell them is this. Plan Rohtang as a bonus, not as the main reason for the trip. If the pass is closed or permits are full, pivot to Sissu via the Atal Tunnel. The views are comparable and there is no permit headache.

👉 Pick the right stay & route — we’ll help.

Do you need green tax or permits for Manali in June?

If you are driving a non-HP vehicle into Manali, yes. The Manali green tax is ₹100 for a bike, ₹200 for an LMV, and ₹300 for a passenger vehicle, valid for 7 days. It is collected at the entry barrier and is completely separate from the Rohtang permit.

Do not confuse the two. The green tax just lets you enter and move around Manali and the nearby belt. It does not give you access to Rohtang Pass. For Rohtang, you still need the separate online permit through rohtangpermits.hp.gov.in.

For self-drive travellers, our team tip is this. Keep a printed copy of your green tax slip in the glove box, keep your PUC certificate current, and apply for the Rohtang permit the moment the 2-day window opens. Slots disappear within hours on weekends.

What should you pack for Manali in June?

Start with layers. A cotton t-shirt for daytime, a full-sleeve shirt or light fleece for evenings, and a light jacket for higher-altitude day trips.

Walking shoes are more important than most people think. Hadimba, Jogini Waterfall, and Old Manali all involve uneven paths. Regular sneakers work. Formal shoes do not.

Carry sun protection. The UV at this altitude is stronger than the temperature suggests. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a cap are basics.

A light rain layer matters more in late June than early June. A packable windcheater or compact poncho is enough. No need for heavy raincoats yet.

If you are self-driving, carry your original RC, driving licence, PUC certificate, and insurance. Also keep soft copies on your phone. Permit officers check all of these.

How many days are enough for Manali in June?

Two days is the bare minimum. Day 1 is Hadimba, Old Manali, and Mall Road. Day 2 is Solang Valley with some adventure activities. This works if you are just passing through on the way to Leh or Spiti, but it skips Rohtang entirely.

Three days is the sweet spot for most travellers. Add a full day for Rohtang Pass or the Atal Tunnel and Sissu day trip. If Rohtang is closed, swap in Naggar and Jogini instead.

Four days gives you real breathing room. Add a slow day for cafés, a Vashisht visit, and maybe a half-day easy trek. This is also what we recommend for families with kids or older parents, because nothing feels rushed.

If you are tight on time and want us to build the right version for your dates, we are happy to help. June is the most expensive month to visit Manali. Hotels run at 1.5x to 2x their off-season rates, and the good ones sell out weeks ahead.

For hotels and homestays, exact prices vary too much to quote. Mid-range stays in Manali town tend to run higher in June than the rest of the year. Book at least 3 weeks out for any weekend visit.

For Rohtang, third-party taxi examples we have seen quote around ₹6,499 for a hatchback, ₹7,499 for a sedan, and ₹9,999 for an SUV. Always confirm with your driver whether permits, parking, and congestion fees are included.

For rafting, basic runs on the Beas are advertised from ₹500 to ₹1,000, with longer runs costing more. Paragliding in Solang varies by location and flight duration.

The genuine money saver most travellers miss is this. If you are coming from Delhi or Chandigarh, take a Volvo from ISBT instead of a private taxi. You save a significant amount and arrive more rested for the hill drives.

Also worth knowing, the roads have seen real investment recently. In 2026, NHAI approved ₹825 crore for Kiratpur-Manali highway restoration at 44 critical sites. That said, fresh reports still warn that the Manali approach remains vulnerable ahead of monsoon, so build in a buffer day if you are travelling late June.

Important June travel tips for Manali

Start early. We keep saying this because nothing else you do will matter as much. Leaving your hotel by 7 AM changes your entire day.

Book your stay at least 2 to 3 weeks ahead. Walk-in options in June often leave you with the bottom of the barrel at top-of-the-market prices.

Recheck Rohtang permit status the day before your trip. The official page can switch from Open to Closed overnight because of fresh snow or road damage.

Have a plan B. If Rohtang is closed, your backup is the Atal Tunnel and Sissu day trip. No permit needed, similar views, less stress.

Carry cash for small dhabas and parking. Not every spot accepts UPI, especially on the Solang and Rohtang stretches.

Avoid late-night drives on the Kullu-Manali highway, especially in late June. The stretch near Kullu has rockfall zones that are easier to spot in daylight.

For more curated options beyond just Manali, see our popular tours or just contact us with your dates.

Best nearby add-ons from Manali in June

Sissu is the cleanest add-on. A day or a night here via the Atal Tunnel gives you open meadows, the Sissu lake, and a waterfall, all with far less crowd than Manali.

Spiti Valley is a conditional extension. By mid to late June, the Manali to Kaza route usually opens, but early June access via Kunzum Pass can still be a coin toss. If you are serious about Spiti, check live road status before committing, and look at our Spiti Valley tour packages for the full circuit.

Chandratal is a later-June possibility, not an early-June plan. The Chandratal diversion road from Batal needs its own clearance separate from Kunzum Pass. If your dates are before mid-June, keep Chandratal flexible.

What we tell our travellers is simple. If your Manali trip falls in early June, stick to Manali and Sissu. If it falls in late June, consider adding Spiti or Chandratal once you have confirmed road status.

Final verdict on Manali in June

Manali in June is worth it, especially for first-time visitors and families. The weather is pleasant, the valleys are at their greenest, Solang is running full steam, and there is enough to fill three to four days without repetition.

The two things that will ruin your trip are underestimating the crowd and over-depending on Rohtang. Plan around both and June Manali will feel like exactly the holiday it is supposed to be.

If you want snowfall in Manali town, June is not your month. Go in January. If you want peak greenery, open roads, and all the activities working, June is one of the best windows you will find.

👉 Want this trip?
