No permit, no crossing. The check post does not negotiate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the permit covers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tourism permit is valid for one day, to and fro. One day means one day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Documents you need<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need valid ID proof, a valid PUC certificate, and the vehicle registration date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your vehicle must not be more than 10 years old. This catches out a lot of self-drive travellers who only find out at the portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Daily quota and booking windows<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The daily quota is 800 petrol vehicles and 400 diesel vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Permit windows open at 10:00 and 16:00. Each window releases 400 petrol and 200 diesel slots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can only apply for the next 2 days from the current date. So you cannot lock this in weeks ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only 3 permits per vehicle are allowed in a Tuesday-to-Monday week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Permit fee in 2026<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The permit fee is \u20b9500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The congestion charge is \u20b950 for car, jeep and MUV. For bus and HMV it is \u20b9100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So for a car, jeep or MUV, permit plus congestion comes to \u20b9550.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Printout is compulsory<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carry a physical printout. A screenshot on your phone is not enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the single most common reason we see travellers turned back at Gulaba. Print it in Manali the night before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If you book a taxi<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you book a taxi locally, the driver or operator will often handle the permit booking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confirm this in advance, in writing on WhatsApp if possible. That conflicts with what the portal is currently showing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to actually do<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not plan a Tuesday Rohtang trip without checking the live permit portal, the District Kullu notice, or a local operator first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone telling you Rohtang is closed every Tuesday through the whole September 2026 season is stating something we cannot confirm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What we tell our travellers: keep Tuesday as your buffer day, not your Rohtang day. That judgement is worth paying for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taxi rates vary by season, vehicle and how the day is going. The tunnel bypasses Rohtang entirely and drops you into the Lahaul side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sissu is the standout there, and honestly, plenty of our travellers end up preferring it.
