Growing up in Shimla, our founder प्रवीन चौहान didn’t see the Himalayas as a holiday backdrop. He saw them as home. The fog on the ridges in November. The smell of deodar pine after the first monsoon rain. The passes that close silently overnight and the valleys that open up each April like nothing you’ve ever seen.
He hiked trails that don’t appear on any travel blog. He knew which dhabas on the Kinnaur highway served real Himachali food and which ones were just serving tourists a watered-down version of it. He knew the locals, the routes, the seasons — not from research, but from living.

Why HimTrails Started — The Real Story
In 2020, Praveen kept hearing the same thing from travelers who’d visited Himachal Pradesh. They’d had a good trip. But not a great one. They’d been taken to the famous viewpoints, stayed in generic hotels, and followed itineraries that could have been copy-pasted for any hill station in India.
Himachal Pradesh deserved better than that. And travelers deserved to actually experience it — not just pass through it.
So Praveen started HimTrails with one clear intention: to be a Himachal travel company founded by locals, for people who want to go deeper than the postcard. Not just Rohtang Pass and Mall Road. But Chitkul in the morning light. Chandratal at dawn. The Key Monastery when the monks are chanting and there’s no one else around.
The early days weren’t easy. Managing everything alone — bookings, logistics, customer queries, last-minute problems on the road — meant there were no shortcuts. Every trip had to be planned the way Praveen would want his own family to travel. That standard hasn’t changed since day one.
